Watercolors

From 1958 through 1963 C. Ronald Bechtle was dealing with family and personal issues that created a significant distraction from his painting. His wife Jennie, who he married in 1951, passed away in March 1962 unexpectedly. Beginning in 1963 he directed his attentions back towards his art and began a 40 year period focused primarily on watercolor paintings. During this period he had studios in Philadephia PA, Stamford CT and Seal Harbor Maine. In the late 1960’s he felt the art world was becoming too commercial and he stopped exhibiting and refused to sell his works. He did honor most requests from museums who wanted donations of his work for their permanent collections. Other than for a small group of friends he fully withdrew from the art world but continued to create art solely for the love of it.
